I am pleased to announce the following Head Coaches for the KC Mavs AA travel program for the 2020-2021 season.  Ryan Galt Head Coach KC Mavs Squirt AA, John Scott Dickson Head Coach Pee Wee AA and Michael Kempkes Head Coach Bantam AA.  All three coaches have vast playing experiences as well as experience and knowledge of developing players on and off the ice. They are all eager to start to create a positive playing experience for all players trying out for Mavs AA travel programs.

MICHAEL KEMPKES- Head Coach KC Mavs Bantam AA
A native of Kansas City, Mike played hockey from age 6 through the Jr hockey ranks. Mike played most of his youth hockey with the Jr. Blades and Jr. Lancers of Omaha. Was a bantam draft prospect of the Regina Pats WHL. Played Midget hockey in Omaha where he started his Jr career with the Omaha Lancers USHL. Mike finished his hockey career with the Columbus Crush CSHL. After playing he began his coaching career with the Lincoln Jr Stars as the Varsity Coach IHSHL for two years 02-04. Omaha Jr Lancers Varsity Coach 04-06. KC Stars Bantam AA 06-08. Russell Stover AAA Tier 1 U14 and U16 coach 09-13. Mavs Elite AAA Tier 1 U16 13-15.  KC Mavs U18 AA Coach 15-17. KC Mavs AA U16 Coach 2017-20.  Kansas City Mavericks ECHL Hockey Ops and Strength & Conditioning Coach 2015-2019.  Mike is certified Level 4 USA Hockey and has worked with/under coaches such as Pat Ferschweiler (NHL), Mike Hastings (NCAA), Richard Matvichuk (WHL), Jason Herter (NCAA), JS Dickson (ECHL). Mike attended UNO where he studied finance, as well as fire science through the fire academy at Hutchinson CC and University of Kansas.  He resides in Greenwood, MO with his wife (Kelsey) and three children Leilani, Noah and Baylor.
